Well, here's my take: if you are going to be in San Jose anyhow, either staying there or just passing by on the freeway, then I would say yes, it may be worthwhile. Is that all you wanted to know? Oh, no, you also asked "is it worth going to?" The first time, my family was passing through the area while on vacation the second time, I worked in the vicinity (Santa Clara). Well, no, NOBODY of the 200,000-plus registered members on FlyerTalk has EVER been there.Īnyhow, for me the answer is yes, I've been there exactly twice: once when I was a child, and once as an adult (maybe 20-some years ago). Thread title: "has anyone been to the Winchester Mystery House?" (Sorry if you are aware of this but I was not sure!) In summary I would say that if you are in the area it is definately worth a visit, however I would not make a special trip just to visit it.Įdited to add.Sorry if this sounds rude but from reading the rest of your post, are you aware that the Winchester House is in San Jose near San Francisco and not anywhere near Hollywood? I certainly wouldn't travel all the way from LA just to see the Winchester House unless my visit also included SFO.
I overheard other guides who seemed much more personable so I guess it is just down to luck who you get. The tour guide was also very robotic with very little personality. However, it was quite busy and the tour that I was booked on felt very much like a conveyor belt experience. It seems to be situated in the middle of Mall Complex, although once you are in the grounds you don't really notice. I was surprised by its location as I was expecting something a little bit more like the Hearst Castle isolated location. It is a fascinating story and the house and gardens are really quite intriguing. I thought it was really interesting and enjoyed it a lot. I went to the Winchester House a few years ago.
